A visit to our provincial capital in 2016 is well worth the effort. One of the oldest medieval town centres in the Netherlands, ’s-Hertogenbosch, is celebrating the return of some of the works by the world-famous artist Jheronimus Bosch. To commemorate the 500th anniversary of his death, a full year of activities for all ages is being organised in and around his home town.
Bosch500: a large-scale event
Jheronimus Bosch – Visions of Genius
Jheronimus Bosch made his famous paintings and drawings on the Bossche Markt. In the 500 years since then his works have been scattered around the world. A large number of his top works will make a once-only return to the town in an exceptional exhibition in the Noordbrabants Museum: Jheronimus Bosch - Visions of Genius (13 February to 8 May).
Tread in Jheronimus Bosch’s footsteps: The Bosch Experience
This discovery route follows the artist’s trail through the town. An amazing climb to the roof of St John’s Cathedral, a heaven and hell boat tour on the Binnendieze river under the houses in the medieval centre, a spectacular light show ‘Bosch by night’ on the market place where the artist once had his studio… The Bosch Experience offers such variety that families with children, history enthusiasts and experts in contemporary art can put together their own route. The Bosch Experience is an unbelievable adventure! (from March 2016).
The spirit of Bosch will permeate the squares and streets of the town for an entire year, with more than 90 activities being organised.
