In 2019 and 2020 Brabant will be commemorating seventy five years of peacetime existence. Operation Market Garden started in September 1944, when paratroopers landed in North Brabant, close to Eindhoven, while Allied ground forces forced their way through the province to reach the paratroopers in Nijmegen and Arnhem. The Battle of the Scheldt began in October 1944 under Canadian command. This operation did achieve its goal. The fighting that followed caused more death and destruction, until the province was largely liberated in 1944. A substantial front was established along the River Maas, but not before many civilian and military lives were lost. The north of the Netherlands remained occupied until May 1945.
Brabant Remembers will bring 75 personal life changing war stories about the Second World War to life: big and small, about mobilisation and liberation, the resistance and collaboration or repercussions. Stories which will highlight all aspects of the war. Stories in which life-changing choices are a central theme. The Brabant Remembers locations all differ in nature and give diverse and impressive accounts by ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

Brabant Remembers Tour & Travel factsheet.
We are proud to present the first Tour & Travel factsheet for Dutch and foreign travel organisations. The Trade factsheet combines the Brabant Remembers locations and stories into interesting travel and holiday packages. This factsheet was distributed widely to overseas tour operators, coach companies, cultural associations, river cruise operators and the press during the World Travel Market in London (6-8 November). In so doing we are trying to establish contact with them so they can include our stories and locations in their holiday portfolio. All the museums or remembrance locations in Brabant can be visited which will give a good impression of where these stories took place. In addition there will be a short summary of the most important events that will take place in 2019.
In addition to the Brabant Remembers locations, a factsheet has also been developed which features the towns in Brabant and other aspects of leisure in Brabant. This includes not only the cities of ’s-Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven, Breda and Bergen op Zoom, but also the Van Gogh heritage locations of Nuenen, Zundert and Etten-Leur.
