September 2016 - In 2017 it will be exactly one hundred years since the Dutch art movement De Stijl (The Style) was created. To celebrate this milestone, 2017 has been designated ‘Mondrian to Dutch Design’ year by NBTC Holland Marketing, The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht, Gelderland, Drachten and Brabant. Brabant will be participating with a special programme. Following the successful activities based on Vincent van Gogh in 2015 and Jheronimus Bosch in 2016, Brabant will once again be presenting itself in a much talked-about theme year.
Discover design in Brabant
In the 2017 programme Brabant will be building bridges between the heritage of De Stijl and contemporary design. Cities, leading museums and locations in our province will work together to give the world a unique insight into Dutch Design. Visitors will come into direct contact with the design and production processes that were so characteristic of De Stijl and which still are for Dutch Design: accessible, unconventional and often full of humour. They will be able to have a peek into the world of famous Dutch designers whose roots are in Brabant, such as Piet Hein Eek, Maarten Baas, Daan Roosegaarde, and discover unusual museum collections. Besides that visitors can get to work on their own design and creations in numerous work places.
