As one of the four official leading monuments in Brabant – in addition to St. John’s Cathedral, Heeswijk Castle and the Markiezenhof – a visit to the city’s ‘living room’ is a must for those interested in art, culture and history. Not only are the forefathers of the Dutch Royal Family laid to rest in the Nassau Church of the Netherlands, but during a (free) viewing of this beautiful church you will also be able to admire some wonderful artworks. Or as a previous visitor commented: “A beautiful light interior with wonderful art treasures.

Cultural Breda
After viewing the church and admiring the current exhibitions, you can also climb the tower or take a guided tour. Climb with a guide via the Nassau Bell and the Tower Watch Room to a height of almost 60 metres and enjoy the impressive views of the historic town centre of Breda and the distant surroundings. See how the House of Nassau left its royal mark between 1403 and 1568. During a guided tour you will learn how the term 'stinking rich’ came into being, or how ‘dog killers’ were employed just to remove dogs from the church…

Multifunctional building
Unless there are activities and events and with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, the church is open for visiting throughout the year. The Grote Kerk also rents out various spaces in a flexible way. Engaged couples can have either a civil or religious wedding here. In addition it has all the facilities to make conferences, exhibitions, seminars and meetings from ten to 1000 people a success. Or come and dine or have a drink in 15th century ambiance (with modern catering).  The church is frequently also the setting for impressive concerts, from solo performances to St Matthew’s Passion.

Come and marvel at this beautiful church which is less than five minutes’ walk from the station and multi-story car parks.
